'Fundraiser' - Folkestone Leas Lift

'Fundraiser' is part of the Look Closer Folkestone Series.

It's probably the most ironic of all of the collection, because as I type these words yet more plans have been announced for the renovation of this iconic Victorian Water Lift. When I first drew this back in 2010, it was the same situation, having had a facelift and then a slow decline. It's been renovated more times than Windsor Castle.

Taken from my original Leas Lift Kent Series Print that sold in a gallery in town, the work is the only new piece that has been brought back from the dead. Given a new lease of life. The old lines boarded up with new paint and tidied lines.

But what's the reality? What this time? Is this invention from the Victorians symbolic in the interest and then lack of success we see in our little seaside town at times? 

I had no idea this was going to start another life just as I started commenting on what came before. So fundraiser. The reworking of the Folkestone Leas Lift 2023. 

This work requires you to look deeper than face value. To explore the image.
